How to Issue a Refund from the Transaction List (Refund Button)

How to issue a refund using the inline Refund button in the WIZniche POS transaction list — Refund Items, Refund Amount, restock step, reason for refund, and card payment acknowledgment.

For a faster refund process, WIZniche POS includes a Refund button directly in the transaction list — clicking it opens the same full Issue Refund panel without needing to open the transaction detail first.

Opening the Issue Refund Panel from the List

  1. Click Transactions in the left sidebar.

  2. Find the payment transaction you want to refund.

  3. Click the Refund button on the right side of that row.

The Issue Refund panel opens with two tabs — choose how you want to process the refund.

Option 1: Refund Items

Use this tab to refund specific items from the original transaction. Amounts shown include taxes and discounts where applicable.

  1. Click the Refund Items tab.

  2. Check the box next to each item you want to refund. The running total updates as you select.

  3. Click Refund Items.

  4. The Select items to restock screen appears. Items will be restocked at the location of the original purchase. Check any items you want to return to inventory, or click Skip to proceed without restocking.

  5. Click Restock Items (or Skip).

  6. The Confirm refund screen appears. Review the total refund amount, the payment method the refund will be returned to, and select a Reason for refund if applicable.

  7. The Email refund receipt to customer checkbox is ticked by default — uncheck if you don't want the customer to receive an email.

  8. Click Confirm Refund to complete.

Note: If the original payment was made by Card or ACH, you must check the acknowledgment box confirming you understand the refund will be processed through the payment processor and the customer should receive funds within 3–5 business days.

Option 2: Refund Amount

Use this tab to refund a specific dollar amount rather than selecting individual items. Note that refunding by amount (rather than by item) may cause a discrepancy in your inventory, item sales reports.

  1. Click the Refund Amount tab.

  2. The Refund To field shows the payment method the refund will be returned to (e.g. Cash, Card). The max refund allowed is displayed below the amount field.

  3. Enter the dollar amount to refund.

  4. Select a Reason for refund from the dropdown:

    • Returned goods

    • Duplicate charge

    • Service not received

  5. If the original payment was made by Card or ACH, you must check the acknowledgment box confirming you understand the refund will be processed through the payment processor and the customer should receive funds within 3–5 business days.

  6. Click Issue Refund to complete.

Why the Refund Button Might Not Appear

The inline Refund button only appears on eligible Payment transactions. It will not appear on:

  • Refund transactions (you can't refund a refund)

  • Transactions that have already been fully refunded

  • Declined or failed transactions, since no funds were collected

For these rows, use the three-dot menu (⋯) to see available actions, or open the transaction to review its status.
