Terminal Hardware Settings — Restart, Backlight & Sleep

How to configure restart hour, display backlight, and sleep timeout in the Hardware tab of a WIZniche POS terminal profile.

The Hardware tab of your terminal profile lets you configure how the physical device behaves throughout the day — including when it reboots to install updates, how bright the display is, and how quickly it goes to sleep when idle.

Note: Hardware settings are dynamic and will vary depending on your terminal model. More advanced devices may expose additional settings. Android-based terminals (like the Castles AMS1) may show fewer options than standalone non-Android terminals since many Android settings are managed at the OS level.

How to Access

  1. Go to Settings → Devices → Device Profiles.

  2. Click on the terminal you want to configure.

  3. Click the Hardware tab.

The page subtitle reads: "Configure how your terminal behaves at various times during the day. Settings include backlight, restart, and maintenance intervals."

Restart Hour

The Restart Hour sets the time of day when the terminal automatically reboots. During this reboot, any pending terminal software updates from Adyen will be installed.

  • Select a time from the dropdown (e.g. 11:00).

  • The reboot happens in the timezone of the device's location, so set this to a time when the terminal is least likely to be in use — typically overnight or during a closed period.

  • Keeping software up to date ensures your terminal has the latest security patches and functionality.

Display Backlight (%)

Controls the brightness of the terminal's display screen, as a percentage.

  • 100% is the brightest setting (default).

  • Lower values reduce brightness — useful for low-light environments or to reduce power consumption.

Select your preferred brightness from the dropdown.

Sleep Timeout

The Sleep Timeout is the number of seconds the terminal waits while in an active state before going to sleep (screen off / low power mode).

  • The default value is 50 seconds.

  • Increase this value if your staff find the terminal going to sleep too quickly between transactions.

  • Decrease it to conserve power on terminals that sit idle for long periods.

Enter the desired value in seconds in the field.

Saving Changes

After updating any Hardware settings, save your changes. They will sync to the physical terminal the next time it connects to the WIZniche platform (approximately every 3 hours), or you can force an immediate update via the Config menu on the device using your Admin passcode.
